Bonus Episode: Talking About Kids and Covid With an Expert (Our Kid!)

As parents, adults, and human beings with decades of experience living in a world where a global pandemic felt more like a movie premise than an actual possibility, living through one has been, to put it mildly, a challenge. For those of us with children living at home, it’s been an exercise in developing an ocean of patience, finding more inner strength than we ever thought possible, and trying to figure out how to respond to your kids’ questions when you truly have no good answers. But what has it been like as kid who’s now spent almost a quarter of your life living in a reality that everyone is telling you is so not normal? We take two truths — that kids are really struggling right now (academically, socially, emotionally, and in many sad cases, physically) and that kids are unbelievably adaptable — and present them to one kid, my 10-year-old daughter, Mae, who proves that two opposing truths can absolutely coexist — and then entertains us with her recently developed skill for accents. Kids and Covid, guys. It’s on every parent’s mind, but maybe our kids have it figured out better than we ever could.
